The experience

Everything you need to know about sim shooting

From what it actually is, to what to bring, to what it costs.

Simulated game shooting is the closest you can get to a driven shoot day in the off-season. Teams of guns rotate through a series of stands; clays are flushed in patterns designed to mimic partridge, pheasant, grouse and other quarry. There's no real game involved — but the shooting is genuinely fast, varied and challenging.

A sim day is a full day out: usually 6–10 guns, 4–6 drives, a hot lunch, elevenses, plenty of cartridges, and good company.

What does it cost?

Most sim days fall in the £150–£400 per gun range depending on the venue, the catering, the cartridge count, and whether shoot capt'ns and coaches are included.
